COMEDIAN PUTS HART IN PLANT-BASED BURGERS

This is vegan, fast food style. Popular comedian Kevin Hart is behind it. Walk up to the counter or drive thru at Hart House which serves burgers and chicken sandwiches, both vegan. The new plant-based patties are made partly from soy and tree nuts so be careful if you have food allergies. The American cheese is also plant-based. Burger comes with a soft seedless brioche bun, tomato, lettuce, grilled onions and a signature sauce, similar to a lite thousand island. The patty is thin, with cheese it clocks in at 602 calories. They also offer a double at 652 calories. The single is a little smaller than other vegan burgers this author has eaten in so cal but it’s pretty tasty.

The well received restaurant chain also offers a plant-based crispy chick’n sandwich with pickles and vegan mayo. Comes with a spicy option at 638 calories. Also offer a variety of chicken nuggets including hot. You can choose one of several sauces. Also have tater tots, a bit mushy, and fries which were okay. Loaded vegan tots seem to be popular. They serve good shakes, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies ‘n cream. Hard to believe these are vegan. Nice texture and taste. There are no name brand or diet sodas, so no Coke or Pepsi. Except for the unsweetened iced tea all drinks have calories. Also on the menu, a kale salad, two sizes. And confetti cookies and chocolate chip which are a bit sugary.

No Beyond or Impossible meat here, the proprietary patties are the creation of a former plant-based guru at Burger King. When they opened prices were pretty reasonable but along with everything else they’ve gone up. A double burger can be close to $15 plus fries or tots and a drink. Four locations so far in the Los Angeles area with more planned across the country. Owner Kevin Hart admits he’s not a vegan but is pitching food sustainability and what’s good for the earth. Definitely one of the best plant-based options in so cal. No joke.
